Department of Medicine Ultrasound Workshop Recap

The Department of Medicine’s Clinical Excellence and Education Communities recently hosted an Ultrasound Workshop to provide faculty members with a broad overview of ultrasound and how it can be incorporated into everyday practice. The CME-certified workshop included a combination of didactic sessions and hands-on learning on the following topics:

  • Introduction to Ultrasound
  • Cardiac Ultrasound
  • Vascular Diagnostics
  • Lung/Pulmonary Exam
  • Abdominal Exam

During the event, physicians and providers utilized two ultrasound platforms (Mindray and Sonosite), along with handheld portable devices. They practiced image acquisition via bedside teaching on live models and learned how to recognize normal and abnormal ultrasound findings via image interpretation sessions.

Department of Medicine faculty described the event as very practical and helpful for their practice. Participants said that they were pleased that the department had invested in this opportunity for faculty development. One faculty member stated that the workshop was by far the most valuable US teaching experience they had been a part of.

See below for photos from the event.
