Reena Hemrajani, MD, named associate program director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program

Reena HemrajaniReena Hemrajani, MD, has been named an associate program director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program. Hemrajani will be taking over the associate program director position from Tracy Vettese, MD, who served as interim associate program director following Dr. Alanna Stone’s untimely passing in 2017.

During Vettese’s tenure, she helped oversee the expansion of our core faculty’s responsibilities to include core faculty lead projects and the restructuring of Grady ward and ICU teaching teams. Vettese will work with Hemrajani as she transitions into her role. She will also continue to lead our core faculty. We are incredibly grateful for Vettese’s investment in our program.

Hemrajani, a nationally-recognized leader in graduate medical education, joined the Emory School of Medicine faculty as an associate site director and hospitalist at Grady in 2017. In addition, she also serves as an assistant division director for faculty development for the Division of Hospital Medicine and a core faculty member with a focus on a bedside coaching project to train internal medicine residents in teaching and physical exam skills. Prior to joining Emory, Hemrajani served as an associate program director at Virginia Commonwealth University for four years where she also completed her internal medicine residency and served as a chief resident. She is highly regarded for her leadership roles in the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and well-received workshops at the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) meetings.

Hemrajani will join the residency program’s leadership team along with six other associate program directors under the direction of residency program director, Karen Law, MD. Together, the residency leadership team helps guide the administrative, clinical, and educational oversight for the residency program. Hemrajani will have a key role in resident advising and mentorship and development of new curricular and evaluation programs for the residency program.
