The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Miller, MD, as the new director of the Ambassador Program, taking over the position from Steven Gorbatkin, PhD, MD, who served as the program director since 2012. Miller serves as the site director of the Atlanta VA Medical Center and an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine.
Miller completed her post-graduate training at the J Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program at Emory University. She then joined the Emory faculty as an academic hospitalist at the Atlanta VA Medical Center in 2009. Miller continues to work at this site as both a clinician educator on the inpatient resident teaching service and hospitalist on the direct care teams.
Gorbatkin says his involvement as a direct ambassador throughout the years has been a highlight of his experience in the program, “and the memories of my initial meetings with many VA staff who I now work closely with are still fresh in my mind.”
The Ambassador Program was developed to enrich the experience of newly hired Department of Medicine faculty. It is designed to both welcome and improve the new hire experience by partnering experienced faculty with recent hires to ease their transition to the department and Emory. The program focuses on new faculty hires at the five Emory sites, including Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta VA Medical Center, and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, with representation across divisions and in both the clinical and basic science arenas.
We look forward to seeing the continuous growth of the Ambassador Program under the lasting impact of Gorbatkin’s contribution and Miller’s new leadership.
