The Emory University Department of Medicine is currently soliciting applications to fill the role of associate program director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program – a position recently vacated by Dominique Cosco, MD. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an interest in leadership in graduate medical education.
The associate program director will join a leadership team along with six other associate program directors under the direction of residency program director Karen Law, MD. Together, the residency leadership team helps guide the administrative, clinical, and educational oversight for the residency program. In addition to administrative and organizational assistance, partial full-time equivalency (FTE) of salary support will be provided to the associate program director.
Specific responsibilities of the associate program director include:
- Assisting the program director in program administration, curricular planning, and program evaluation
- Planning and participating in residency events, including recruitment, orientation, didactic events, social events, and graduation
- Leadership in administrative, educational, and clinical teaching responsibilities
- Individual resident mentorship
- Participation in scholarship in graduate medical education and academic societies designed to further develop educational, administrative, and leadership skills

Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program at Emory University is one of the largest training programs in the country, with 175 residents spread across the three years of postgraduate training. The residency curriculum is carefully designed to emphasize patient ownership and continuity, bedside examination and procedural skills, evidence-based medicine and high-quality care, and leadership skills. Applicants should have a clinical role at Grady Memorial Hospital. Applicants from all divisions within the Department of Medicine are welcome and must be available to assume responsibilities of the position by November 1, 2018.
