Department of Medicine hosts first annual Diabetes Day Symposium

The Department of Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipids and Diabetes Management Program recently hosted its inaugural Diabetes Day Symposium. The half-day event was hosted to further educate physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses, CDEs, and dietitians on diabetes standards of care, medication updates, diabetes management, and diabetes technology.

Diabetes experts Guillermo Umpierrez, MD, professor of medicine, Francisco Pasquel, MD, assistant professor of medicine, Priyathama Vellanki, MD, assistant professor of medicine, J. Sonya Haw, MD, assistant professor of medicine, Sol Jacobs, MD, assistant professor of medicine, and Georgia Davis, MD, assistant professor of medicine, spoke on a variety of topics including: ADA and AACE Standards of Medical Care; Oral and Non-Insulin Antidiabetic Drugs; Insulin Initiation and Titration; Management of Comorbidities; Diabetes in Older Adults; and Updates on Diabetes Technology.
