How did Emory’s residency program prepare you for your future career?
With Emory’s combination of diverse training environments with world-class subspecialties, it allowed me to explore not only what kind of medicine I wanted to practice, but also in what setting. I discovered not only how fascinating the liver is (coolest organ by far!), but also the significant impact that healthcare disparities have on less well-off patients. That has inspired me to train at a fellowship that works to treat the underserved.
What’s the biggest takeaway from your year as a chief resident?
Chief year has shaped my growth as a leader and has taught me to effectively manage and work with residents from different backgrounds, with different perspectives.
What is one piece of advice you would like to give to incoming Emory residents?
Work like you are owed nothing and you will get far more in return.
What will you miss the most about Emory’s residency program?
I will miss the camaraderie that comes from having a very large program. My favorite memory of Emory is my night float rotation, with three of my best friends all working overnight together. Although working overnight is difficult, having your best friends with you makes all the difference!
What do you enjoy most about living in Atlanta?
I love the unique feel of each neighborhood, with delicious restaurants scattered in between.
What are your career plans for after residency?
I will be moving to Denver to start a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Colorado.
