Researcher Spotlight: Angel Rodrigo Leon

What is your professional background?
​I am a cardiac electrophysiologist. My clinical research efforts focus on the development and testing of catheter-based and device-based approaches for treating heart rhythm disorders and congestive heart failure. Our work includes treatment of SVT, atrial fibrillation, cardiac sudden death, and cardiac dyssynchrony.

In what division do you work and who is your mentor?
​The Division of Cardiology; my mentors include Fred Morady (University of Michigan) and Randolph Patterson (Emory).

Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
​The application of our work directly extends and improves the lives of our patients.

What do you like most about Emory?
​My colleagues.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?
​’Dr. Strangelove’ or ‘How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.’

What do you like to do in your spare time?
​Recreational cycling and spending time with family; ideally, combining both.

What is a fun fact about you?
​Won a costume contest with friends dressed as the rock band Kiss. All photos have been destroyed.
