The Emory University Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, in collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, are currently soliciting applications for the role of program director for a new Emory Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency training program. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an interest in leadership in graduate medical education.
The program director will lead a team that will include a program coordinator and will help recruit an associate program director. Together, the team will guide the administrative, clinical, and educational oversight for the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) program with a projected size of four trainees/year and total complement of 16 trainees at program maturity. In addition to administrative and organizational assistance, partial full-time equivalency (0.5 FTE) of salary support will be provided.
Specific responsibilities are as follows:
- With the Vice Chairs of Education and Core Residency Program Directors of both departments, complete the request to the ACGME for initial program accreditation which will include developing a curriculum for planned launch in academic year 2024
- Provide leadership for program administration, curricular planning, and program and resident evaluation
- Develop and implement innovative approaches to the curriculum and educational methods
- Work closely with the internal medicine and pediatrics residency program directors
- Lead recruitment efforts and help plan orientation, didactic events, social events, and graduation
- Ensure compliance with all ACGME and regulatory requirements for the Med-Peds program
- Mentor individual residents
- Participate in scholarship in graduate medical education and academic societies designed to further develop educational, administrative, and leadership skills
Qualified candidates will ideally:
- Be trained in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics but care for patients across the age spectrum even as board certification in only one of the specialties is acceptable.
- Have at least three years of educational and/or administrative experience but will consider other highly qualified candidates
