Medical residents in Emory Hospital

The Emory University Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, in collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, are currently soliciting applications for the role of program director for a new Emory Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency training program. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with an interest in leadership in graduate medical education.

The program director will lead a team that will include a program coordinator and will help recruit an associate program director. Together, the team will guide the administrative, clinical, and educational oversight for the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) program with a projected size of four trainees/year and total complement of 16 trainees at program maturity. In addition to administrative and organizational assistance, partial full-time equivalency (0.5 FTE) of salary support will be provided.

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • With the Vice Chairs of Education and Core Residency Program Directors of both departments, complete the request to the ACGME for initial program accreditation which will include developing a curriculum for planned launch in academic year 2024
  • Provide leadership for program administration, curricular planning, and program and resident evaluation
  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to the curriculum and educational methods
  • Work closely with the internal medicine and pediatrics residency program directors
  • Lead recruitment efforts and help plan orientation, didactic events, social events, and graduation
  • Ensure compliance with all ACGME and regulatory requirements for the Med-Peds program
  • Mentor individual residents
  • Participate in scholarship in graduate medical education and academic societies designed to further develop educational, administrative, and leadership skills

Qualified candidates will ideally:

  • Be trained in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics but care for patients across the age spectrum even as board certification in only one of the specialties is acceptable.
  • Have at least three years of educational and/or administrative experience but will consider other highly qualified candidates

Interested candidates should submit the following to Joyce Watford at joyce.watford@emory.edu by May 15, 2022:
