The Department of Medicine is excited to announce that Jonathan Sevransky, MD, MHS, professor of medicine, has been named interim division director for the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, effective July 1, 2022.
In the interim division director role, Sevransky will work directly with the Pulmonary Leadership Council, Tony Haney (academic administrator), and Courtney Pierce (clinical administrator) to lead the division’s academic and clinical affairs. His responsibilities will include administrative, operational, financial, and strategic oversight of all division clinical, research, and teaching activities.
Sevransky joined the Emory faculty in 2011. He is the director of the 5TN Medical ICU and the assistant director for the Emory Center for Critical Care for Medicine for Emory University Hospital. His clinical, educational, and research interests center on the treatment of patients with life threatening illness such as sepsis, septic shock, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
He currently serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Critical Care Medicine. He was also a founding member of the US Critical Illness and Injury Trials Group and is past chair of the Society for Critical Care Medicine’s (SCCM) Discovery Research Network. He is a member of the SCCM Board of Regents and is co-chair of the SCCM Multiprofessional Critical Care Review Course.
Sevransky completed his medical education at the George Washington University School of Medicine and his residency at the Presbyterian Hospital of New York at Columbia University. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at John’s Hopkins University and a critical care medicine fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
As we complete the search for the next division director, we look forward to seeing Sevransky lead the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine and the Department of Medicine’s mission to advance health through discovery, education, and care.
