The Department of Medicine was thrilled to host the DOM Mid-Career Workshop on August 19 and August 26, in person at the Woodruff Memorial Research Building. This two-part workshop was put on by the Faculty Development team to provide professional development and networking opportunities for DOM mid-career faculty.
We had approximately 25 participants join us for both sessions, with Day 1 focused on professional development and leadership, and Day 2 focused on scholarship, education, and mentoring. The workshop was very well received, and many sessions went long due to the active engagement and dialogue. Not only was this a good opportunity for faculty to learn, but it was also a great way to set aside time for personal development. One participant shared after the event, “This whole workshop has given me the ability to recognize my feelings of burnout, and to step outside of those feelings to assess how I can make meaningful changes for improved personal health and professional satisfaction.”
We want to thank everyone who attended and those that took part in making this a successful workshop. Special thanks to our didactic speakers: Dr. Kathy Griendling, Dr. Jada Bussey-Jones, Dr. Nadine Kaslow, Dr. W. Robert Taylor, Dr. Vandana Niyyar, and Varun Phadke; special thanks, too, to the breakout group speakers: Dr. David Schulman, Dr. Anandi Sheth, Dr. Rachel Patzer, Blake Harrington MPH, Dr. Nadine Rouphael, Dr. Nathan Spell, Aaron Lee, Dr. Lesley Miller, Dr. Ulemu Luhanga, Dr. Colleen Kelley, Dr. Meena Prasad, Dr. Modele Ogunniyi, Dr. Taryn Taylor, Dr. Kimberly Manning, and Dr. Barbara Pettitt.
