Our next DOM Staff Spotlight is Jasmah Hanna, MS, Associate Director of Research Projects in the Division of Hospital Medicine. Learn more about our colleague below!
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas. I lived in Boston, Massachusetts for 22 years, before moving to Atlanta.
What is your professional background?
My research career began at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston where I worked on nutritional epidemiology randomized controlled trials and cohort studies. I also have a background in community health, leading nutrition and health education programs for vulnerable populations. After moving to Atlanta, I took on a research role in the Emory Division of Hospital Medicine and I have been here ever since.
What is your role at Emory?
I am the Associate Director of Research Projects for the Division of Hospital Medicine responsible for developing and overseeing research and quality improvement projects along with programs to increase scholarship productivity. I also serve on our Division’s Senior Leadership Team.
How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I have been a part of the Department of Medicine for five and a half years. In 2022, I had the honor of receiving the DOM Excellence in Academic Innovation Award.
What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
I have the privilege of collaborating with remarkable teams of healthcare providers who are dedicated to improving patient outcomes, healthcare delivery, and medical education. This summer, we look forward to hosting the Division of Hospital Medicine Research Day for the sixth year (details coming soon!). I have organized this conference for the past five years and it is always a wonderful opportunity to gather members of the division and DOM to highlight and celebrate hospital medicine innovations and advancements happening across our sites.
Along with this, my current projects include a continuous glucose monitoring education program and study, clinical documentation and clinical decision-making implementation studies, as well as studies aimed at reducing length of stay for patients admitted to our hospitals. There is also a sleep health study in the works.
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I enjoy exploring new cities, attending concerts, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends.
