Resident Spotlight: Kyle Torres

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m currently working at Grady Memorial Hospital. I grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi, and attended Emory for medical school.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
I decided to pursue a career in internal medicine to help keep people out of the hospital. I enjoy helping people manage their chronic conditions, and I knew that as an internist, I’d be well equipped to handle anything that walked into my office, from routine vaccinations to complicated uncontrolled diabetes.

How have your first few weeks of residency been?
The first few weeks of residency have been an adjustment, but they have also been a lot of fun. I’ve really enjoyed working with and learning from my fellow residents and of course, our patients.

What are you most looking forward to during your time at Emory?
I’m looking forward to learning how to practice medicine from some of the most thoughtful and compassionate clinicians in the country, who we are lucky to have at Emory.

What is your favorite thing about living in Atlanta?
I really love being in a southern city. Atlanta has all of the perks of city life with more of a welcoming neighborhood feel.

Can you share a fun fact?
My mom and I are currently learning how to play the ukulele together.
