Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I grew up in a little place called Grayslake, IL (where there is a lot of corn), went to Northwestern for undergrad, and attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine. As part of the IM program here at Emory, I work at Grady, Emory University Hospital, Emory Midtown, and the VA!
Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
For me, medicine is about developing intensely personal relationships with patients and learning their stories. What they enjoy, who they surround themselves with, where they live, what gives their time meaning – these are the facets of their lives that directly inform how we care for and heal them. What an amazing job!
How have your first few weeks of residency been?
I describe it like being adrift in a stormy ocean – it’s overwhelming and, at times, frightening – but there are all these Olympic swimmers, the residents and faculty, who take turns helping me tread water. That support has been amazing!
What are you most looking forward to during your time at Emory?
I am already getting to know the city through the eyes of its inhabitants – finding its jewels and its flaws. I am looking forward to serving and caring for the very diverse people of Atlanta!
What is your favorite thing about living in Atlanta?
Some combination of the searing sun and sudden rainstorms have made this place a lush jungle. It is so GREEN! I love how interwoven the parks, gardens, and trees are throughout the city.
Can you share a fun fact?
I was born on February 29 – Leap Day – and my birthday only happens once every four years! So I would guess that I am the only 7 year old currently treating patients at Emory.
