It is with a heavy heart that the Department of Medicine shares the loss of Jimmie Dancer, MD, a beloved Emory physician and faculty member for more than 15 years. He passed away February 25 at the age of 71.
Jimmie was a faculty member in the Division of Hospital Medicine and practiced at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital for almost 10 years. As a hospitalist, he managed the clinical problems of hospitalized patients and the acutely ill, while working to improve the performance of the hospital. Jimmie also worked in collaboration with medical and surgical doctors to provide the best care for his patients. Over the years, he mentored many faculty on how to navigate their the intersection of their professional careers and their personal lives.
Most recently, Jimmie served as an instructor at West Georgia Health Systems, where he mentored fellow faculty members and shared his passion for quality patient care. Among his many accolades and accomplishments, he was named a Top Internist and Hospitalist in 2019.
Jimmie graduated from Florida A&M College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1973 and earned his MD at Case Western Reserve University Medical School in 1982. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mt. Sinai Case Western.
