Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
My family and I live in Villa Rica, Georgia. I’ve always had a deep passion for helping those around me, whether it’s my family, friends, colleagues, or the broader community. Contributing in meaningful ways and making a positive impact on the lives of others has always been a driving force in everything I do. It was this mix of passions that ultimately led me to pursue a career at Emory.
What is your professional background?
I have a background in early education, having taught Pre-Kindergarten, as well as experience as an Executive Assistant for a top Inc. 500 company. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in diverse roles; teaching young children, supporting multiple executives across three different states, and collaborating with various teams in different organizations. These experiences have allowed me to develop a strong foundation in organization, communication, flexibility, and adaptability. In my previous roles, I specialized in planning and executing company-wide events, conferences, and leadership/team-building activities. Each of these experiences has shaped my ability to coordinate complex projects, manage logistics, and foster meaningful connections. No matter the setting, my goal has always been to make a positive impact in every interaction I have, whether it’s with students, colleagues, or the community.
What is your role at Emory?
I currently serve as a Senior Administrative Assistant to the Cardiology Division Director, W. Robert Taylor, MD, PhD. In this role, I provide high-level administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the division. My responsibilities include managing schedules, coordinating meetings and divisional events, handling correspondence, and facilitating communication between faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. I’m able to bring my enthusiasm for organization, communication, and service into my role, ensuring that faculty, staff, and researchers have the resources and support they need to succeed. Whether it’s coordinating events, facilitating recruitment efforts, or managing complex administrative processes, I find fulfillment in knowing that my contributions help advance the important work being done in medicine and research. I take great pride in being part of a team that is dedicated to fostering groundbreaking research. Supporting a division that contributes to medical advancements and innovative treatments makes my work incredibly fulfilling. I particularly enjoy collaborating with colleagues, problem-solving to enhance efficiency, and playing a key role in ensuring that our faculty and researchers can focus on their critical work.
How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I have been working in the Department of Medicine at Emory for almost seven years. During that time, I have had the privilege of collaborating with an incredible team of faculty and staff. This collaboration has led to numerous successful initiatives, including high-profile events, impactful recruiting efforts, valuable fundraising opportunities, and engaging annual research symposiums. Throughout my time, I have played a key role in organizing and executing events that bring together researchers, and students to foster collaboration. I have also supported recruitment efforts to attract top-tier faculty and researchers who contribute to the department’s mission.
What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
Right now, I’m excited about our annual Cardiology Research Symposium taking place this summer, as well as our ongoing faculty recruitments and the clinical and basic research seminars that we conduct weekly. These initiatives require extensive communication, meticulous planning, and attention to detail, but also create valuable opportunities to connect leading experts. The Cardiology Research Symposium is a major highlight of the year, offering a platform for leading researchers, clinicians, and trainees. Here they will present groundbreaking work, discuss emerging trends, and foster collaboration across their respective specialties. It’s inspiring to see how these discussions contribute to advancements in cardiovascular research and patient care.
In addition, our recruitment efforts are critical in ensuring that we continue to attract and retain top-tier faculty and researchers who bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the division. The weekly clinical and basic research seminars are another key component of our academic environment, allowing faculty, fellows, and students to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and stay informed about the latest developments in medicine and research. There’s a lot of energy surrounding these initiatives, and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact they will have on our faculty and students. Being part of these efforts and witnessing their success firsthand is truly rewarding.
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy engaging in activities that allow me to recharge and stay balanced. It’s important for me to maintain a healthy work-life balance, whether it’s exploring new places, enjoying outdoor activities, or simply unwinding with a good crime show or podcast. I love spending quality time with my family and friends, as well as our beloved pup. Whether it’s sharing a meal with loved ones, or planning fun outings, these moments bring me joy and help me stay connected with the people and things that matter most. Having a well-rounded life outside of work not only keeps me motivated but also enhances my ability to contribute to my professional responsibilities.
