Residency training at the Atlanta VA Medical Center

Emory University Department of Medicine internal medicine residents have the opportunity to train at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) serves the health-care needs of more than 100,000 enrolled veterans living in Georgia and has 445 inpatient beds, including a 120-bed community living center and 15 community-based clinics.

According to 2015-2016 VAMC Chief Resident Andrew Ip, MD, Emory faculty members and veterans at the VA make the IM residency training experience unique. Department of Medicine faculty at the VA are very involved in the training of the residents, interns, and students. They frequently attend the residents’ educational conferences and ask stimulating questions to help everyone learn.
