Kenneth Walker, MD
Beginning in 1940 with former Chair of Medicine Eugene Stead, MD, teaching has been a top priority for the Emory University Department of Medicine, and Grady and its patients have been essential to the department’s teaching process.
Legendary educator H. Kenneth Walker, MD, MACP, FAAN has been a faculty member in the Emory University Department of Medicine and on staff at Grady Health System since 1963. Dr. Walker estimates that he has taught between 9,000-10,000 students in his time at Emory. He served as Emory’s residency program director at Grady, which later expanded to also include Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, and the Atlanta VA Medical Center. H. Kenneth Walker MD, MACP, FAAN is a professor of medicine and neurology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Walker has been deeply involved in medical education in his time at Emory, serving as director of the internal medicine residency program and director of the junior medicine clerkship and sophomore clinical methods. He has also written or edited a number of books on physical diagnosis, organizing medical data, and evaluating surgical patients. A particular interest of Dr. Walker’s has been the application of computers to medicine; he was instrumental in establishing a pioneering electronic medical record at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and has been a member, chair, and senior consultant to the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine since 1992.
