Samantha Yeilgler, MS, PhD
Dr. Samantha M. Yeligar is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. She was recently awarded a National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism R00 grant to study the “Effect of Peroxisome Proliferator Activated-Receptor Gamma (PPARγ) Ligands on Alcohol-Induced Alveolar Macrophage Oxidative Stress.”
The project focuses on alcohol-mediated down-regulation of NADPH oxidase-related microRNAs that contribute to alveolar macrophage dysfunction, which can be reversed by treatment with PPARγ ligands. The considerable translational impact of these investigations on the management of alcoholic patients to mitigate their susceptibility to developing respiratory infections will set the stage for future clinical studies.
In her free time, Samantha loves to paint with acrylics, draw with charcoal, travel, and concoct interesting culinary experiments for which her friends volunteer as study subjects.
