Congratulations to this year’s Emory University Department of Medicine Research Day award winners! This year, more than 300 people attended the event which has celebrated research efforts across the Department of Medicine since 2008.

The full-day program included both oral and poster presentations from researchers across the department’s nine divisions. It also included a keynote address titled “Preventing cancer recurrence” from Vikas Sukhatme, MD, ScD, Dean of the Emory University School of Medicine.

A huge congratulations goes to Anurag Mehta from the Division of Cardiology for receiving the Top Overall Presentation award. Mehta will receive $1,000 to be used toward research costs.

Top Overall Presentation:

  • Anurag Mehta (Cardiology)

Out of 160 abstracts submitted, the following researchers were selected as clinical and basic science poster winners:

Clinical Posters:

  • 1st place: Anurag Mehta (Cardiology)
  • 2nd place: Rahsaan Overton (Infectious Diseases)
  • 3rd place: Stephan Goebel (Digestive Diseases)

Basic Science Posters:

  • 1st place: Matthew Smith (Pulmonary)
  • 2nd place: Juline Deppen (Cardiology)
  • 3rd place: Steven Forrester (Cardiology)

The following faculty members received awards for the best clinical and basic science oral presentations:

Outstanding Clinical Oral Presentation:

  • Haritha Katakam and Bonnie Stedge (Hospital Medicine)

Outstanding Basic Science Oral Presentation:

  • Jolyn Fernandes (Pulmonary)
