The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Zirka Smith, MPH, DrPH will join the Division of Infectious Diseases as the new division administrator. In addition, Bjay Wylde has been appointed division administrator for the Division of Endocrinology. Both roles are effective Friday, November 1.
As the division administrators, Smith and Wylde will be responsible for all TEC and university-based major division activities including grants and contracts, clinical operations, development and administration of TEC and university budgets, financial analysis, space management, and human resources management.
Smith started her career at Emory in 2016 in the Management Development Program. From there, she transitioned to roles with the School of Medicine’s Strategic Initiatives Office, Department of Medicine Administration, and the Division of Endocrinology. During her time as the Division of Endocrinology’s division administrator, she provided key leadership in the expansion of the clinical practice to Emory St. Joseph’s and John’s Creek campuses, establishment and growth of the Diabetes Management Program, and recruitment of a key basic science investigator. Prior to Emory, Smith spent five years with the Georgia Emerging Infections Program in a variety of different roles.
Wylde currently oversees Grady clinical operations for many of the Department of Medicine’s divisions. He has been at Emory since 2016. During his time here, he has worked with leadership in the divisions of endocrinology, infectious diseases, renal medicine, and rheumatology to manage revenue cycle, physician deployment and productivity reporting, and financial reporting/budgeting. He played critical roles in the preparation and management of the strategic plan for Grady’s Transgender Clinic; expansion of podiatry, nephrology, and rheumatology faculty practice clinics; and expansion of an additional consultation service line for infectious diseases.
Please join us in congratulating Smith and Wylde on their new positions. We look forward to seeing how their continued leadership and expertise will help further their respective divisions.
