How did Emory’s residency program prepare you for your future career?
Emory’s residency program exposed me to such a variety of patients and clinical cases that I felt very well prepared. Emory also has so many attendings who are wonderful teachers and you learn a lot during your residency here.
What’s the biggest takeaway from your year as a chief resident?
Perhaps this was because we were unofficially called the ‘disaster chiefs’ after COVID-19 happened, but I learned to be ready to face anything! The year really taught me how to adapt to a variety of unforeseen situations and to try to make the best out of every situation.
What is one piece of advice you would like to give to incoming Emory residents?
I remember being very nervous and afraid of everything when I started my intern year. As the year progressed, I realized that there was so much support around me that I had nothing to be afraid of, and I learned more and grew more when I stopped being so nervous. So don’t be afraid! You’re going to learn so much and will have an amazing year full of growth.
What will you miss the most about Emory’s residency program?
I was fortunate to have made some long lasting friendships here and to have met some of the kindest, most supportive mentors. It was the people I met that supported me and encouraged me throughout my time here and I will miss them a lot.
What do you enjoy most about living in Atlanta?
I love how Atlanta has something for everyone. It is close to some really great outdoor trails, it has a wonderful restaurant scene, it has some great shows that play at the Fox Theater, and best of all, it is extremely affordable!
What are your career plans for after residency?
I will be starting my fellowship in infectious diseases. Although I will be leaving Emory and Atlanta for fellowship, they will always be in my heart!
