The Department of Medicine is pleased to share that Tracey Henry, MD, assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, has been named the inaugural thread director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Racial Advocacy for Emory’s MD program. In this new role, Henry will work to ensure that the MD curriculum reflects the School of Medicine’s mission for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). She will develop and refine the school’s current curriculum to one that will prepare medical students to work towards DEI in all aspects of patient care and the medical profession through collaboration with program directors, school DEI leaders, the Executive Curriculum Committee (ECC), and other student leaders.
Henry has been actively involved with undergraduate and graduate medical education since her arrival at Emory in 2016. In addition to teaching students and residents in the primary care clinic and on the inpatient wards at Grady Memorial Hospital, Henry serves as the director of the Health Policy Curriculum for the Medicine Residency Program Primary Care Track and the director of the Health, Equity, Advocacy and Policy Track for all Emory Graduate Medical Education programs. In 2019, Henry was named the Emory EMPACT program director, where she helps engage and mentor underrepresented minorities in medicine.
During her career at Emory, Henry has received numerous awards and acknowledgments including the Emory University School of Medicine Distinguished Service Award; the Department of Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award; and the American College of Physicians Walter J. McDonald National Award for Early Career Physicians. In 2017, she was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar in Washington, D.C.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve in this pivotal role that will impact the lens for which our learners see not only our patients and profession, but each other,” said Henry. “This role is an opportunity to empower our learners to not only become effective clinicians exhibiting cultural humility, but to equip them to become leaders and advocates.”
Please join us in congratulating Henry on this accomplishment! We look forward to seeing her impactful work contribute to the education of Emory’s medical students.
