Researcher Spotlight: Mike Lloyd

What is your professional background?
I am a cardiac electrophysiologist at Emory University Hospital on Clifton Road. My roles are primarily clinical and the oversight of the fellowship program.

In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work in the Division of Cardiology, Section of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. My mentor is Paul F. Walter.

Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
My research focuses on different ways of treating life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Our efforts have led to important collaborations with the Department of Radiation Oncology to develop a non-invasive way to irradiate harmful circuits in the heart similar to the way a tumor received radiation. This therapy has the potential to represent a non-invasive option for those with dangerous arrhythmias.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I don’t watch TV, but I like the puzzle programs on NPR.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Cycling and restoring old bicycles is my passion.

What is a fun fact about you?
Most of my childhood was spent in Germany.
