Please join the Department of Medicine in congratulating Anandi N. Sheth, MD, MSc, Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, on being selected as Associate Vice Chair for Faculty Development, effective May 1, 2023.
In this new role, Dr. Sheth will assist the Vice Chair for Faculty Development, Sushma K. Cribbs, MD, MSc, with the promotion and tenure process; provide oversight for the annual FEED conference and other faculty development events; provide guidance to the faculty development committee and mentoring subcommittee; and guide the overall direction of the DOM faculty development program.
After joining Emory’s Department of Medicine faculty in 2011, Dr. Sheth served in several leadership roles including Director of Research Operations for Grady Infectious Diseases Program, Associate Director of the Emory CFAR Clinical Core, Project Director of the Emory-Nigeria Research Training Program, and Project Director of the Building Interdisciplinary Research in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) K12 program. She is a nationally recognized leader in the field of HIV and women’s health and has achieved a national reputation for her work based on her diverse research funding, her high-impact peer-reviewed publications, and her leadership across various nationally and international programs.
Dr. Sheth is actively involved in teaching all levels of learners in a variety of settings and is also a highly effective and dedicated mentor. Dr. Sheth has mentored and advised many trainees during her time as a faculty member. She has served on two thesis/dissertation committees, served as a field advisor to three Master of Public Health (MPH) students, and mentored 23 masters, doctoral or post-doctoral trainees and 11 faculty members, most as a lead or co-lead mentor on projects related to EMCF grants, BIRWCH, NIH K12, K23, and Fogarty programs. In addition, she has supervised another 14 students, residents and post-doctoral fellows on their research projects and three other advanced practice providers. Dr. Sheth received the Jonas A. Shulman Teacher of the Year Award (2014) and the Shanta Zimmer Mentoring Award (2020) from the Emory Division of Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Sheth is PI of the Study of Treatment and Reproduction and the Atlanta MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study, longitudinal cohort study aimed to understand long-term comorbidities in men and women with and without HIV. Her research seeks to optimize delivery of HIV prevention interventions in women’s health settings and understand HIV management for women of reproductive age.
Dr. Sheth graduated summa cum laude from Rice University in 1999 and then obtained her MD degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2003. In 2006, she completed her Internal Medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins University and then completed the two-year Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2008. She then joined the Infectious Diseases fellowship at Emory University, which she completed in 2011. She was recruited to stay on as faculty at Emory as an assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases in 2011, completed a Masters in Clinical Research (MSCR) in 2015, was promoted to associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases in 2018 and promoted to professor of Medicine in 2022.
We look forward to welcoming Dr. Sheth into her new role in guiding the Office of Faculty Development as it strives to inspire and assist faculty with enhancing scholarship and research, service, and teaching, to promote career satisfaction and skill development, and to create a community of engaged faculty within the Department of Medicine. As a dedicated mentor, educator, leader, and expert she is sure to add value to our programs.
