What is your professional background?
I am currently a Clinical Research Nurse at the Hope Clinic of Emory University. After receiving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the American University of Beirut, I worked as an OB-GYN Nurse in Lebanon for four years, then moved to Atlanta and joined an amazing team of researchers at the Hope Clinic. I am also pursuing my master’s degree at Emory University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Which division do you work in? Who is your mentor?
I work in the division of Infectious Diseases, and I am very lucky to have Dr. Nadine Rouphael and Tigisty Girmay as my mentors.
Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
I worked on a multitude of vaccine studies, both observational and investigational, ranging from COVID-19 Vaccine trials to vaccine trials against Shingles and other infectious diseases. I also led the Shigella Challenge Study, which aims to test the safety and efficacy of a vaccine against Shigella, a bacterial pathogen responsible for severe diarrheal illness worldwide, particularly in areas with poor sanitation and hygiene practices. Vaccine research is crucial for disease prevention, disease eradication, outbreak control, advancements in medical science, and promoting global health equity. It saves lives, protects communities, and contributes to a healthier future for all.
What do you like most about Emory?
I like the people the most. Working with the diverse and talented individuals at Emory is a truly enjoyable experience. Each person brings a unique perspective, making interactions stimulating and enriching. The environment at the Hope Clinic is both fun and comforting, providing a supportive atmosphere that allows for meaningful connections, laughter, and a sense of belonging.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I have a couple of comfort series I always go back to, like Gilmore Girls and Jane the Virgin. Some of my favorite movies are The Intouchables, La La Land, and almost anything Pixar.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I really enjoy pottery, traveling, going to concerts, and trying new foods.
What is a fun fact about you?
I once entered a radio contest and won an all-expenses paid trip to a concert in Paris. So, you could say I’m lucky, competitive, or both.
