The Society of General Internal Medicine’s (SGIM) Annual Meeting was held in Boston, Massachusetts, from May 15 to May 18, 2024. Each year, SGIM pulls together internal medicine physicians from all over the country for an annual meeting featuring over 200 educational sessions and events including:
- Workshops
- Clinical Updates
- Special Symposia Sessions
- Plenary Sessions featuring Keynote Addresses
- Distinguished Professor Talks
- Pre-conference Intensive Sessions
- Mentoring Panels
This year’s theme was Strengthening Relationships and Valuing Our Diversity, aimed at deepening skills in relationship building and bringing together people with diverse perspectives and strengths to take on the challenges of today.
Many faculty and trainees from Emory’s Department of Medicine, specifically the Division of General Internal Medicine, were in attendance and involved in this year’s meeting. Three of our faculty members serve as SGIM leaders: Jada Bussey-Jones, MD, FACP, who was sworn in as SGIM President during the meeting; and Marshall Fleurant, MD, MPH, and Danielle Jones, MD, who serve as SGIM Council Members.
Our faculty and trainees were also involved by serving on committees and participating in the meetings as presenters. Seventeen faculty members from the Division of General Internal Medicine served on the SGIM committee commission, and six served from the Division of Hospital Medicine. Over forty DOM faculty and trainees presented in various capacities, including:
- Poster presentations
- Symposium presenters
- Participating in interest group panels
- Leading workshops
- Recording podcasts
- Giving clinical updates
Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend, present, and serve at this year’s SGIM Meeting. Thanks for representing the DOM and Emory!
