What is your professional background?
I am an infectious disease doctor and did my fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine prior to coming to Atlanta in 2016. I have worked with military veterans at every step of my medical training since medical school. To continue the tradition, I chose to work full time at the Atlanta VA Medical Center when I moved to Atlanta.
In what division do you work, and who is your mentor?
I work in the Division of Infectious Diseases. I seek advice and guidance from different colleagues in my division here at Emory. My colleagues have such a wealth of experience, and there are so many resources here at Emory that make collaboration possible.
Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
My main role here at Emory is providing HIV primary care, HIV PrEP, viral hepatitis treatment, and general ID care to our military veterans. Our Atlanta VA HIV clinic is the largest among VA medical centers in the country. Based on these clinical experiences, I have done research in HIV, HCV, and now COVID-19. A group of us in our division are very interested in learning more about how SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination affect patients living with HIV. I am also interested in immunocompromised hosts, and currently I am involved in an invasive mold surveillance project with the Georgia Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and CDC.
What do you like most about Emory?
I love the comradery and the collegiality, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
Favorite drama: Breaking Bad
Favorite comedy: Parks and Recreation
Currently COVID-19 binging: The Sopranos and The Great British Baking Show
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I chase my two-year old around the house. I also love to cook for family and friends. The COVID-19 pandemic has led me to sourdough bread baking.
What is a fun fact about you?
I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and I am very adept at pinching crawfish tails and picking blue crab.
