The division hosted a celebration for Sheila Harris earlier this year in February, where staff expressed their deep appreciation for her dedication, leadership, and support in her role within the Dekalb Operating Unit (DOU) admins and hospitalist team.
Highlights included a delectable lunch catered by Zaza’s Kitchen and a video presentation where staff shared their appreciation for Sheila and her contributions to EDHM. Since joining the Division in 2005, Sheila has supported many faculty, including Dan Owens, MD, Dan Dressler, MD, and the current Division Chair, Dan Hunt, MD. She also has been instrumental in helping to recruit and retain the diverse group of providers that comprise the largest academic hospital medicine nationally as well as partnering with the Emory International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) department to coordinate immigration processes for both new hires and current providers.
Sheila’s contributions to the division are truly invaluable. Currently, Sheila serves as the Supervisor of Business Operations, where she coordinates a wonderful team of administrative assistants. She also provides administrative support to Dan Dressler, MD, and John Vazquez, MD.
Sheila consistently demonstrates an exceptional willingness to help, as well as a vast knowledge of EHC and the ability to bridge gaps despite physical distance. Sheila’s strong sense of teamwork, wisdom, knowledge, and calming presence make her an invaluable asset to the team, and she is recognized for her ability to make others feel appreciated and empowered.
When asked about her tenure with the division, Sheila shared, “Over the past 20 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this department. The team is made up of an incredibly diverse and talented group of individuals. Leadership goes above and beyond to support and value each person’s input.”
