Our next DOM Staff Spotlight is A’Kristionna King, MPH, CDFT, program coordinator for DEI/HR Initiatives within the Department of Medicine RYSE team. Learn more about our colleague below!
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I am from an area right outside of Baltimore, Maryland, called Severn. I was born in Panama City, Florida, but only lived there for a year. Both of my parents were in the military, and they got orders to move to Maryland, and that’s where we ended up!
What is your professional background?
Prior to working on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs at Emory, I coordinated DEI programs for the University of Missouri’s athletics department. I have also worked previously as a DEI consultant for a public school district and as a campaign organizer.
What is your role at Emory?
I am the program coordinator for DEI/HR initiatives for the DOM. I coordinate the different diversity, inclusion, and health equity initiatives we have within the RYSE team.
How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I have worked in the DOM for a little over a year now.
What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
Health Equity Day is RYSE’s annual Health Equity Conference, where researchers are invited to present their work highlighting best practices for promoting and advancing health equity and improving patient outcomes. We are excited to be hosting Health Equity Day as a hybrid event for the first time ever! This year, the in-person portion of Health Equity Day will take place on Tuesday, May 20, at Grady Memorial Hospital. You can register to attend here!
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to travel, cook, check out new restaurants around the city, and spend any time I can outdoors!
