We are delighted to announce the appointment of Camille Vaughan, MD, MS as Associate Vice Chair of Research and Faculty Development, and Charles Searles Jr, MD as Associate Vice Chair of Research and Space Management, effective March 15, 2018.
Vaughan and Searles will work with Kathy Griendling, PhD, Vice Chair of Research and Faculty Development, to identify strategic priorities and projects for research, faculty development and space management; and assist with management of committees and annual events.
Vaughan, Assistant Professor of Medicine, has been a School of Medicine faculty member for more than 10 years. She was named chief of the Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics’ Section of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology last year after serving as the interim section chief since January 2017. In this new role, Vaughan will assist with managing FAME grants and the Data Analytics and Biostatistics Core; serve as a liaison with Research Administration Services (RAS), the Office of Clinical Research (OCR), and the Institutional Review Board (IRB); and assist the vice chair with key tasks in the senior promotions process.
Searles, Associate Professor of Medicine, has been the Associate Director of the Emory Cardiology Fellowship Program since 2004. He also directs the Basic Science Investigator Pathway for the fellowship program. In his new position, Searles will lead the Department of Medicine’s Space Committee; review and update policies to ensure alignment with School of Medicine policies; oversee space data collection and reporting; manage the Internal Visiting Professor Program; and serve as a liaison with Research Administration Services (RAS), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and Division of Animal Resources (DAR).
Please join us in congratulating Drs. Vaughan and Searles on their new roles. We look forward to seeing the positive impact their experience and leadership will have on the department.
